Marshy land at Kharaudi, Distt. Hoshiarpur

Marshy land turned into a village Square with clock tower at Kharaudi, Distt. Hoshiarpur

How to Get started

When a village demonstrates the readiness to modernize and can come up with a minimum of Rs.200,000/- (two lakhs) or more depending on the size of the village, VLIF can help prepare a Village Development Plan which includes a comprehensive contour and street map, architectural drawing with complete specifications and an estimate of the required resources. To ensure transparency the entire project plan is shared with the donors and local community.

VLIF does not undertake piecemeal village development. It is imperative that the entire village benefits from the project. Ideally every household in the village may be asked to make a contribution of at least Rs. 5000, while NRIs and others who are in a financial position to contribute more can be invited to contribute Rs.1 lakh per household or more. Those who contribute Rs.1 Lakh or more can have their names included on a Pillar of Appreciation in the village.

If the project is approved by Punjab Govt. under Plan Scheme NRI-1, the donors/ NRI need to collect 50% of the total project cost. The Govt. then bears the remaining 50% balance of the approved budget. Additional details can be found here http://nripunjab.gov.in/mera-pind.htmhttp://nripunjab.gov.in/mera-pind.htm

VLIF assists in guiding and supervising project implementation along with the Village Development Committee/Panchayat.

STEPS TO BE UNDERTAKEN

Prepare a Village Development Plan which includes a detailed street map, complete specifications, and an estimate of the required resources.

Once the project is positioned to move forward, VLIF will assist, guide, and supervise the implementation of the project alongside the Village Development Committee/Panchayat. For small-scale businesses (i.e. dairy farms, etc.) VLIF can put the villages in contact with a bank for guidance and financial assistance.

How Non-Resident Indians can help

If you’re an NRI and wish to adopt your ancestral village or any village in Punjab and help VLIF bring about a perceptible transformation in that village, we request you to get in touch with either a relative or a trusted resident of the concerned village and make a contribution to them. They can then work along with our organization to plan and execute the development project.
